FAQ

Does Playbar pair with other Sonos speakers for surround sound?
Yes. While Playbar is a great soundbar on its own, it also wirelessly pairs with our Sub for added bass and a pair of Sonos speakers for full surround sound. A setup with left and right rears and a Sub gives you true 5.1 surround sound.
What audio content can I play on Playbar?
Playbar plays back all of your TV audio, once setup with the Sonos app is complete. You can stream audio from TV, movies, video on demand, music, radio, video games, audiobooks and podcasts.
What audio codecs and formats will Playbar support?
Playbar plays audio from PCM stereo and Dolby Digital sources.
Can I mount Playbar?
Yes. Use the Sonos Wall Mount for Playbar or a certified third-party wall mount, available from sonos.com.
How do the new processor and increased memory affect the product experience?
Currently there are no feature differences between Sonos One Gen 2 and the original version. The original Sonos One will continue to support all its current features, and more, in the future. Over time, however, the increased memory, Bluetooth Low Energy, and processing power may allow us to bring new product experiences to the Gen 2 version that the original will not be able to support. That said, we have no specific Gen 2-only features planned at this time.
Will Sonos One Gen 2 work in stereo pair and as surrounds with the original Sonos One?
Yes, the Gen 2 works seamlessly with the original Sonos One as a stereo pair or home cinema surrounds.
How does Sonos One Gen 2 use Bluetooth Low Energy?
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) was first introduced with Sonos Beam, and now we are bringing it to Sonos One Gen 2. Just like with Beam, BLE can be used to communicate temporarily with your phone or tablet to simplify the first-time setup process. BLE does not support audio streaming. Once setup is done, Sonos One Gen 2 streams and updates via your WiFi just like the original Sonos One.
How can I tell which version I have?
Sonos One Gen 2 is marked as “Gen 2” on the product label underneath the speaker. The original Sonos One only has “One” on the product label.

Reviews

Can't I just use my personal music streaming subscription?
You’ll still have to pay licensing fees to use music in your business. Additionally, if you want to get rid of the ads that interrupt the music, you’ll need to pay for a premium subscription on most services. It’s usually more cost effective to subscribe to a music streaming service for business use.
Why do I need a commercial music streaming service?
Composers, musicians, and artists deserve fair compensation, especially when their music offers extra value to your business. As a business owner, you’re legally responsible for paying license fees for music you play in your venue.
What is considered a public performance?
The Copyright Law of the United States defines a public performance of music as, “Music performed in a place open to the public or at any place where a substantial number of persons outside of a normal circle of a family and its social acquaintances is gathered.”
What are Performance Rights Organizations?
BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC are known as the Performance Rights Organizations (PROs) that represent songwriters and music publishers in the United States. If you play music licensed by one of these organizations and don’t have a license from them, you can potentially be held liable for copyright infringement, which can result in thousands of dollars of liability as well as costly legal fees.
